چکیده

A hyperthermophilic archaeon Pyrococcus horikoshii was isolated from a hydrothermal vent in the Okinawa trough in the Pacific Ocean. It optimally grows at around 100oC. The hyperthermophiles were expected to be good producers of thermostable enzymes active at around 100 oC. The thermostable enzymes have considIkuo MATSUI Biological Information Research Center e-mail: [email protected] AIST Today Vol. 2, No. 9 (2002) 18 Neuronal Signals Related to Degree of Reward Expectancy in Anterior Cingulate

Differential Effects of the Lateral Hypothalamus Lesion as an Origin of Orexin and Blockade of Orexin-1 Receptor in the Orbitoftontal Cortex and Anterior Cingulate Cortex on Their Neuronal Activity

Several studies revealed that orexins may take part in the regulation of the different forms of affective and cognitive processes during wakefulness. The orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) as an important part of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) have a crucial role in cognitive processes such as reward and decision-making and has a high density of orexin receptor type 1 (...

Temporal filtering of reward signals in the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex during a mixed-strategy game.

The process of decision making in humans and other animals is adaptive and can be tuned through experience so as to optimize the outcomes of their choices in a dynamic environment. Previous studies have demonstrated that the anterior cingulate cortex plays an important role in updating the animal's behavioral strategies when the action outcome contingencies change. Moreover, neurons in the ante...

Dissociable effects of reward and expectancy during evaluative feedback processing revealed by topographic ERP mapping analysis.

Evaluative feedback provided during performance monitoring (PM) elicits either a positive or negative deflection ~250-300ms after its onset in the event-related potential (ERP) depending on whether the outcome is reward-related or not, as well as expected or not. However, it remains currently unclear whether these two deflections reflect a unitary process, or rather dissociable effects arising ...

Anterior cingulate error-related activity is modulated by predicted reward.

Learning abilities depend on detection and exploitation of errors. In primates, this function involves the anterior cingulate cortex. However, whether anterior cingulate error-related activity indicates occurrence of inappropriate responses or results from other computations is debated. Here we have tested whether reward-related parameters modulate error-related activity of anterior cingulate n...
